door wall
when I first met Bob there were so many things I was smitten by and one that still gets me to this day is the way he uses whatever word is closest in his brain. after 10+ years of getting to experience his stories I'm proud to be a natural translator for what he means. I still smirk that the accuracy of his wording isn't really a concern to him...cutie.
doorwall was always one of those words that I thought he had created to replace the word silding door and I'd have an automatic giggle whenever he said it. turns out there's lots of people, at least in Michigan, that call a slider door a doorwall...and I'm joining in.
I can't really remember when or how I decided that we would have a doorwall between the patio and kitchen but when I saw the slider was within our price range it was a non-negotiable. maybe it always was a non-negotiable so the price felt fitting for something I had to have?? definitely a chicken or the egg situation.
change order from white to black
Ben, our builder, had to change the order of the traditional hinged doors because I was adamant on all black everything. he originally had more economical white doors that I could paint black [thank you for thinking of the budget]. but I knew we would have endless projects available once the barn was built so I opted for an upgraded door with less maintenance.
believe it or not I agreed to the doors without even seeing them. another practice in trust when Ben said he was pretty sure I'd like them. on top of not seeing the doors before they were ordered I was also out of town when they got installed. it was such a tease. I asked Bob to take videos and pictures for me during the install and was thrilled to see the doors looking gorgeous.
finally overhead barn doors
the overhead garage doors brought such a huge impact. I was so excited to have the full look done while Bob couldn't wait to start filling the barn. when we decided to downsize our home by 2,000 square feet we put our things in a storage unit and have been digging through it as we need things. Bob was pumped to be able to move out of the storage unit and into our own place again.
seeing the overhead garage doors being installed was a huge excitement. besides this being the final step of the build the garage doors had been foreshadowed since the first week the barn started. they were framed out first and installed last...talk about being patient.
being able to step back and see the whole vision coming together in real life was just so rewarding...the doors + the windows + the siding = all black everything we find ourselves hanging out in the barn without a whole lot to do yet. I kind of just walk around the barn looking at it all, absorbing the awesome vibes its throwing out and knowing there's going to be such great adventures ahead.
