before and after of our barn build

I was thinking about all the pieces and parts that had to come together in just the right way to make this our reality. truly this barn of our dreams started much earlier than we realized. it was when we decided to flip our life upside down and move to the lake.

If we didn't move this wouldn't be our reality. writing this it sounds like a duh statement but looking back during the time we were contemplating a life change, we had no guarantee of any of this. it was a huge act of trust because other than some hopes of a 'barn one day' we just had some land, a tiny house and our pup...and each other of course 🤍

there were lots of unnknowns and what-ifs but it's kinda what we're built for. Bob is our stability and foundation while I'm our visionary and director. when we can communicate and remember the beauty of our differences our life challenges and the unknowns seem more like exciting adventures we're grateful to do together.

this barn was no different.

as amazing as this barn is for us we still have a few major things to do. we need to add electric, water and septic to our property in order for our barn to be fully functioning. seems pretty straight forward but there's a catch.

if we install utilities under a residential build we will have a significant savings as compared to installing under an accessory build like the barn. wanting to build a home was what started this in the first place but we had thought it would be a few years down the road after our first attempt at it.

so now we have to decide if we want to live in part of the barn or pivot and build a house in order to get our utilities up and running.

for the last several weeks I've been obsessed with looking at house plans since our priorities have changed since first designing a house. the two biggest changes have been the maximum square footage we want to live in and the complexity of the build. that's for another time though.

right now we aren't decided on anything which is an uncomfortable place for me to be especially when I'm excited. I have a hard time being in this place of 'slow and patient' when I can't wait to dive into the next project.

flow vs force mentality required for seeing the before and after barn build

if I've learned anything from our barn build [and life] it's that flow vs force makes for a beautiful life and trusting the process is always my best default when I don't know what to do.

so here's a nod to my theme of declutter in 2025 to make space for flow. the process of being fully present in the uncomfortable, noticing how my surroundings are impacting me and deciding to take action from a place of cool, calm, collected despite what may be going on around me.
